How to file a claim?

Filing your initial claim

Initial claim is the application that you must fill to find out if you are eligible for unemployment compensation. Theoretically, per benefit year, you may submit one initial claim.

There are two methods of application:

  1. Online. The Online Claim System is the quickest way to apply. You must complete an online form to receive regular unemployment insurance (UI) benefits.
  2. By phone. You can also call in your application. There are many people calling right now, so you might have to wait on hold. Regular unemployment: 1 877 FILE 4 UI (1 877 345 3484)

Filing your weekly claim

Filing a weekly claim is a compulsory step for you to get any money as your unemployment benefits. This is not the same with the initial claim. However, you must complete both.

Prepare to start working again.

People who receive unemployment benefits must look for work and keep track of their efforts.

The 52-week period that makes up your benefit year starts the week that you file. Up to 26 times your weekly benefit amount is possible in total benefits for you. Even if you have received all of your benefits, you cannot submit a new Oregon claim until your benefit year is through.

Change your claim’s address if you move. Maintain your Oregon weekly claims and follow the same guidelines. If you relocate outside of Oregon, you must sign up for job placement services there and show Oregon documentation of your registration.

The amount of your weekly benefit equals 1.25% of your base year’s gross earnings. It will not be less than the minimum or more than the maximum amounts you are entitled to under Oregon law.

Any week in which you work fewer than 40 hours and make less money than your weekly benefit is considered an unemployed week.
